As a psychodynamic counsellor, I use a trauma-informed therapeutic approach to address a client's needs. This approach acknowledges the impact of past experiences, particularly trauma and childhood experiences, while also focusing on present-day thoughts, feelings, and behaviours.
I offer a person-centred, supportive and non-judgemental space that involves identifying and exploring ways to manage challenging emotions or feelings. I tailor the therapeutic approach to your specific needs, drawing on different techniques and interventions as needed, including body work. It offers a holistic perspective, addressing the whole person, considering past experiences. It also helps you develop self-awareness, enabling you to understand your patterns and make positive changes in your life while building resilience and growth.

This focuses on unconscious processes, past experiences, and early relationships to understand how they influence current thoughts, feelings, and behaviours. Psychodynamic therapy delves into the unconscious mind to uncover hidden thoughts, feelings, and memories that may be contributing to current difficulties. It examines how past relationships and unresolved conflicts, especially those from childhood, continue to impact a person's life. This type of therapy aims to help you gain insight into your unconscious patterns and develop a deeper understanding of yourself.

This perspective acknowledges the widespread impact of trauma and emphasises creating a safe and supportive environment for you to explore your experiences and develop coping mechanisms. It focuses on creating a safe and supportive environment for you to process past traumatic experiences without being re-traumatised. This approach emphasises understanding how trauma affects a person's life, such as mental, emotional, and physical well-being.

CBT helps you identify and change negative thought patterns and behaviours by focusing on how thoughts, feelings, and behaviours are interconnected. It's a structured, goal-oriented approach that equips you with coping skills to address various issues. CBT primarily focuses on current challenges and how to manage them by learning practical strategies to manage difficult situations and emotions.
As well as CBT, I can also draw on skills from DBT (Dialectical Behaviour Therapy), and that this is often a therapeutic approach when processing trauma or working through symptoms of self harm in whichever way this affects you individually.
